rm -rf /* protection

Is there a way to prevent running rm -rf /* ?

 

Let's hope someone new does NOT try this!!

Is the PC used only by you or other ppl as well?

The only suggestion I have atm is to not let other users have sudo priveleges, rm -rf /* can't delete system files/folders without su priv, the home directory on the other hand may not be so lucky

 

Most people don't use the terminal so the odds of typing that command are low. They are so used to windows that they are "point and click" oriented.

You have exactly the same protection in linux from running stupid commands as you do in windows when someone tells you to type format c at the prompt and you do it without finding out what it does. There is no cure for stupid - nor safeguards either.

I know linux not giving people root permissions but I'm wondering if there is a way to prevent accidentally running it or running a similar command like rm -rf /bin/*

EDIT:

One way I thought of is not using a root account.

 

that group of keystrokes has been more then covered here in the past.

a Mod should have deleted or edited the post.
