I have vista home 32 bit and tried to fix what I thought was TDDS rootkit. I used Malwarebytes to scan and fix 4 errors and then used Kaspersky virus removal. After that I went to blue screen 7b. Can't boot in any mode. I have read many posts online about similar situations but can't seem to follow a procedure to get working again. Can you help?

    Thanks.

    Bill

[IMG] For 32-bit (x86) systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.

Plug the flashdrive into the infected PC.

    Enter System Recovery Options.

    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until Advanced Boot Options appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Repair your computer menu item.
    • Choose your language settings, and then click Next.
    • Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    • Select your user account and click Next.

To enter System Recovery Options by using Windows installation disc:

    • Insert the installation disc.
    • Restart your computer.
    • If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc. If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or DVD, check your BIOS settings.
    • Click Repair your computer.
    • Choose your language settings, and then click Next.
    • Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    • Select your user account an click Next.
On the System Recovery Options menu you will get the following options:

    • In the command window type in notepad and press Enter.
    • The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open.
    • Select "Computer" and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
    • In the command window type e:\frst.exe (for x64 bit version type e:\frst64) and press Enter
    • Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
    • The tool will start to run.
    • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press Scan button.
    • It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please attach this log to your next reply. (How to attach)

    Give this a try.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system

    Attached is fixlist.txt
    • Save fixlist.txt to your flash drive.
    • You should now have both fixlist.txt and FRST.exe on your flash drive.

    Now re-enter System Recovery Options.
Run FRST and press the Fix button just once and wait.
The tool will make a log on the flashdrive (Fixlog.txt).
Please attach this to your next message. (How to attach)

    Now attempt to boot normally.

Did you do any troubleshooting on your own before you posted here?

I am mostly interested if you went into the system BIOS at all.

I did change the harddrive setting in BIOS from SATA to IDE, rebooted, no change, changed it back to SATA, no change. That was the only change in Bios I made.

Do you remember what the HDD controller setting was set at originally before you had these problems?

Try toggling this setting once again (change it to IDE, and if applicable AHCI), then revert it back to SATA if the PC still does not boot and perform a new FRST scan.

You probably know this but now that I'm back BIOS it was RAID not SATA. So switched to IDE, no change. ACHI no change. ATA/IDE mode Native the whole time and SMART enable. Back to RAID no change. Each time I try and boot I get the launch startup repair option, when I try and choose it it does nothing just resets the 30 sec timer. I choose boot windows normally then get the blue screen right after the window logo shows. Thanks for your help tonight I'm off to bed. Hopefully you'll find an answer.

Go into a bit more detail on this.

Do you have your Windows Vista DVD? Can you try entering Startup Repair from there?

I have tried fixing from the windows dvd many times, no luck. Actually I found an old image and got it to restore last night. not the best solution but at least it is working again. Will have to reinstall some things and find some data files but didn't have any confidence we could get the thing fixed. thanks for your help.
