Router / 3com USB Network Interface

i have a LINKSYS ethernetFast Cable / DSL Router
Model: BEFSR41
PC #1(My office room) Is the main computer which runs the router to PC#2 in my parents room
Pc#1 has a built in port for the ethernet cable and therefore runs fine OS: XP
Pc#2 is a Compaq presario (pentium 3) OS: XP profesional

here is the problem
PC#2 has no built in ethernet port therefore i had a computer technician come in and setup my whole router system
But i got a bad virus on PC#2 and totaly wiped it out and restored it

now i plug in my 3com USB Network Interface into the usb and plug the ehternet into it but it jsut flashes the lights and never connects

is there any way to configure this???

 

are you sure the wire from the wall is plugged into the thing?

 

yes
the link (green light) and activity (yellow light) flash one after the other

 

also i have a laptop and the ethernet cord pluged into it works
it is not the ethernet cord its torubles with the connectivity due to the usb interface
