Hello guys. Sorry if this issue has been repeated a billion times. I've looked at some other threads, no help from them.

So, there is a problem with my Netgear RP614v2 router. I can't get anything to show up in my browsers. The DSL is fine, connecting directly to the modem gives me internet access. I've run 192.168.0.1, did the whole setup wizard and it seems like I have a connection. I can see the IP address, gateway, DNS etc. Pinging the IP in the CMD prompt also gives positive results. So, what's going on here?

If it's any help, I did a "diagnose connection problem" in the tools options for IE and got these results. Any help is appreciated.

I think there is a problem in the DNS side of things. The DNS being the system that translates domain names(like www.google.com) into ip addresses. Try typing in the IP address of a website into your browser rather than the domain name for it or try pinging it. The IP address for google is 64.233.161.104. Yahoo is 209.191.93.52.

Edit: If you go to cmd and type "ipconfig /all" what shows for the DNS server(s)?

Did you make sure that the DSL modem in plugged in to the WAN(Internet) port and that the router is set to dial the PPPoE connection (if your connection requires one)?

Alrighty, sorry for the slow response, it's finals week but I can check things out now.

I think you are right about the DNS; using the ip addresses definitely works, which is proof. Any idea on how to fix this?

    ipconfig /all results in:
    IP address-192.168.0.2
    Subnet mask-255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway-192.168.0.1
    DHCP-192.168.0.1
    DNS-192.168.0.1

Sorry for being computer illiterate, but from the gist of your post, I can say that I have plugged in the right stuff. Modem to router(internet port)... also I don't believe I need to do the PPPoE part, it's plug and play I think. My internet is the 24.99 sbc dsl, and i've had no problems in the past plug and playing with a Linksys router.

so, are you actually connecting to your router from your adapter? are you saying that when you type in the ip address you can access the sites? when you plug your comp to the lan port of your router does it work also (you said it works when you plug straight into your modem).

if, his comp works by cable/wired to the modem. would this still be a dns problem (with the comp)?

have you tried another router? have you tried to connect another comp to your network? for whatever reason, my step-daughter's b/f, can never connect to my network (gateway modem/router, or even if i hook up my d-link router). we can see my network, but have never been able to connect. he also, mentioned of 1 other place that does the same, but i know for sure it's not on my end. g/l, sos

edit - what is your os, in case i missed it. if xp, have you tried zero wireless configuration?, or are you trying to connect using your adapters software?

I honestly am still learning myself, but my guess would be that your router is being assigned as your DNS server, when it should probably be your modem. The reason I think this is because,

    1) Using IP addresses to make http requests to sites works. This tells me it's a DNS problem.

    2) Pluging directly into the modem works using domain names, which means that the DNS system is working correctly. Adding the router in between the modem and the computer makes the DNS system not work, something isn't being assigned correctly.

I believe it's probably going to be a setting in the router. I'll have to look up your specific router to know what exactly you need to do.

You could possibly verify my guess by setting your IP addresses yourself in network connections and making the DNS server your modem, but I can't tell you how to do this right now as I don't have time and am not the best at giving simple instructions.

What you might do is this... Plug your computer back into the modem so that everything works correctly.. Then do another IP config and get the IP addresses it gives then.

As far as I know sbc in many places does use PPPOE, and unless you configure the Router for PPPOE with ID and PW it might Not work.
