runner file

I am having a problem with my computer when it starts.
I get a box that says Runner File (updates from hp.exe) lacks .. (the app id separator.

Also now when I start my computer just for a brief moment I get a black screen asking me what mode I want to start in.....then it gives me a few
choice....Windows XP, Safe mode......if I hit the space bar it will stay and
I can move the highlighted words....if I don't' hit the space bar it just goes
to a regular screen with the message I wrote above.....Can anyone help..please
