Running QBasic Executables in Win XP

I have 3 or 4 small QBasic programs (compiled executables, not BAS source) that I use to run on my Win ME platform by simply double clicking on the file (using Explore). No problem.

Now, when I do that the program runs (executes) in a Command Line window and then disappears. It's so fast that I can't read the results (Print to screen).

It begins to run and waits for me to type in the name of the input file, but as soon as I do that and press Enter, it barely flickers and then disappears.

Any suggestions as to how I can get Win XP to not close the window until I have a chance to read the output screen?

    Thanks

open a command prompt window (Start --> run --> cmd) and navigate to the files and run them from there, this will leave the window open so you can scroll up and read what you need too.

The other option is to run the program and pipe it to a text file using ">"

Matt.Chugg is right both suggestions will work fine.

If you still like to program in BASIC. FreeBasic from SourceForge.net is a great program to replace QBasic. The FBIDE interface is a great tool as well. :)

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried the (Start -->Run -- cmd) and it worked.

Is there a way that I can create a desktop shortcut to achieve that result?

As for liking to program in QBasic, it's been years and I was never very good. All the QBasic programs I have are compiled executables, BAS code written by others.

Now that they are no longer easy to run, I'm looking for someone to 'convert' them to programs with a Win GUI.

In fact, the programs are small crypto analysis programs (frequency checks, Index of Coincidence calculations, etc.) that I'd like to put into a package of 'Crypto Tools' and put them on the web site as a free download.

The first step is to get them running using a Win GUI.

    Any volunteers? :)

    Thanks for the help.
