No matter what I do, I cant seem to fix my problem! I cant reformat my harddrive because my mom has lots of school stuff that she needs on there, and we have too many files to save to a floppy......Reformatting isnt an option here....I need to FIX it............so here's whats happening.............

First of all, my computer is much slower than most. Older, crappier computers run better than mine does. My computer is an Intel Celeron 1.69 GHz with 256 MB RAM. I load up two programs when my computer boots up, and it takes my computer about 4 minutes for it to fully load, before I can do anything. Even afterwards, everything is slow. I know this isnt normal, because many other computers I see, load up around 10 programs when they bootup, and it takes them under 10 seconds. Thats how I want my computer to run!

Secondly, my computer freezes...........A-L-O-T! You have no idea how much it freezes......Heres a few examples of when it freezes:

-When I come home from school, and the computer was on....
-When I try to install big files, like games....
    -When I do nothing.......
-When me or my mom are doing school work.....
    -When I am playing games...
-When I am trying to do more than one thing at once.....
    -When I watch videos....
-When I try to run anti-virus scans....

Thats just a few of MANY examples.....

Im really not sure why it does this.....I guess reformatting IS an option, however I cant do this for another 6 months, since my mom disallows it in fear that it will ruin our computer (oh, the irony!). Please dont make my last resort to wait half a year for a good computer!!!!!!!.......:(........anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated..

    Thanks,
    Tyler.

    Hi Tyler

Do you suspect malware as the cause of the slowness? if so are your experiencing any popups, browser hijacks if so do any have names? or is it just slowness?

While this may not be malware related, the best option you have is to run the guide below and attach the logs, we can then determin if this is malware related or not.

If your running XP on that PC, I would more suspect just from what you have typed above that the issue with slowness is the lack of RAM in only having 256mb, XP really needs 512mb ~ 1024mb to function properly especially if opening many programs at once.

    -----------------------------------

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!
