Hi again guys. Sorry for opening another post because I can see that you guys are busy here.

I have an error constantly show up in Event Log..It goes as follows...

Event ID 7023 (The Application Management service terminated with the following error: The specified module could not be found)

I done a little research on the internet about it and came up with this>

    SYMPTOMS
When you add or remove a program by using Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, the following event may appear in the system log:
    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: Service Control Manager
    Event ID: 7023
Description: The Application Management Service terminated with the following error: The specified module could not be found.

    CAUSE
The Application Management service is not supported in Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, and the Appmgmt.dll file is not included with Windows XP Home Edition. However, the registry setting that disables this service is not configured correctly in Windows XP Home Edition. Therefore, the Add Program routine tries to find the Appmgmt.dll file. When the Add Program routine cannot find the Appmgmt.dll file, the entry appears in the system log.

Do you guys know if either I shouldn't be worried about constantly getting this error or whether there is a fix for it or not? Im in no hurry with this problem so tend to the other users first.

    Thanks.

    Windows XP-HE SP3

    Hi iain.t

Im shocked at what you just told me.
I already just finished clearing malware out of my laptop yesterday, granted it was my family members using it when the infection happened as I was away for several months working and left the lap top to them (mistake looking back on it lol)

This machine im on now however is my baby. I watch for updates, run scans with kaspersky internet security twice a week, run spybot etc and imo its running like a new machine even though its 7 years old.

KIS 2012 has never picked anything up but after looking at the links you provided im starting to worry again.

I will go ahead and run the malware steps in the malware forum and I will report back and let you know how it goes. Thanks for your advice.

    Hello plodr.

As it happens I went and preformed the steps in the malware forum as suggested by iain.t and found two file infections that I didnt even know I had (related/unrelated to my event log problem, im not sure?)

I am currently having my logs reviewed and as soon as my system is clean I will try the hotfix.

    Thank you sir.
