Sata/2 - usb external drive (connection time out) need help

    hi i have a Maxtor diamond max10 sata/2 inside an external caddy with usb2 connecting it to my desktop and i have a connection timed out message quite often how do i solve this i have been told i need to change the connection speed but do not know where or how to if this is the right procedure any way ?

    can any 1 help

    (p.s this is my first post sorry if this has been posted before but i searched and couldnt find anything )
