Screen saver never kicks in.

    I have a Dell laptop running window XP and for some reason the screen saver stop working some tome ago. Would some one know how to get to working again??

    Have you tried Right Click on your Desktop > Properties > Screen Saver then chose a screensaver and minutes before it engages Apply, OK

    Yes.. It's setup to work, but does not. It use to work, but just stopped.

    Hi

    As you mentioned the magic word in Dell, then Dell have a few applications that run at startup that could block and interfear with screensavers running properly.

    1. Ehtray.exe. ( Microsoft Media Center and common cause for screensavers to not run )
    2. DVDLauncher.exe
    3. Power DVD
    4. PCM service. ( a Dell application and this one can easily cause a screensaver to not work )
    5. Dell Media software. ( Dell application again )

    If you have any of these and its by no means an exhaustive list of applciations that can conflict, its a start of ones I do know of, so bets way to test is to run this app Startup Manager and untick in the list most of the startups ( Dont untick Userinit and Explorer though if listed as those are needed ) reboot and enable one at a time and reboot each time and test the screensaver for working properly, this may find the application causing it, hopefully.

    Did you uninstall any Dell software, vaguely remember uninstalling software and it asking me what I wanted to do in certain situations, re power save etc...the program effected desktop settings if I recall.

    OK, I gave in and re-installed the OS and the screen saver still does ot work..

    What else could it be???
