I have been infected by the search engine URL redirecting Malware/Trojan.

I have spent most of the day following the steps in your How to post, and have attached the first four logs. The mglog will follow.

Please note that the Combofix.exe from Bleepingcomputer.com is currently corrupted.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I assumed that it would be obvious what my symptoms were due to the number of posts on the net regarding this problem...just in case, here are the symptoms:

Searching via Firefox, or IE. Search results are presented, but when I click on a link in the search results, I am redirected to various unintended URL's.

    Many URL's begin with http://rle822x.cn...

Did you run MGTools.exe? If so then I also need to see the C:\Mglogs.zip from doing so. :) Attach it into your next reply please and then I can go about working up a full fix for you.

Are you still getting redirected in safe mode as well as normal mode? I understand the re-directs occur in both IE and FireFx?

Stay in normal mode and empty temp files from this bold directory, simply select all and delete what you are able to.

Boot into safemode now and let me know if it happens too.

Thanks for your help...I cannot boot into safe mode. Blue screen - Windows had to shut down...

The only file that wouldn't delete from the Temp folder was - Perflib_Perfdata_750.dat...not sure if that helps.

Whatever it is is causing the redirects is hiding from us.

    Run this:

Go to TDSSKiller and Download TDSSKiller.zip to your Desktop
    • Extract its contents to your Desktop so that you have TDSSKiller.exe directly on your Desktop and not in any subfolder of the Desktop.
    • Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bold command into Run box and hit Enter.
    "%userprofile%\Desktop\TDSSKiller.exe" -v

    • Follow the instructions to type in "delete" when it asks you what to do when if finds something.
    • When done, a log file should be created on your C: drive named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply.

I accidentally ran it from the desktop, and not from the Run prompt. See attached. Thanks.

Actually, I just tried some searches, and the redirect appears to have been corrected.

I did reboot as the TDSkiller directed, so i guess the 3 rootkits corrected the problem.

Let me know if you see something else. Thanks!

That's great! Let me know how things go won't you, over the next couple days or so? Then I can give you the final steps providing your machine is behaving itself still :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
