Hi, I'm running Win ME on a old Compaq DeskPro 333Mhz, 256 RAM. It had a 6.5GB drive and a 10GB drive, but I wanted to add a 20GB internal hard drive. So used Acronis to copy the 6.5GB Drive C: onto the 20GB and use the 10GB as extra storage (ditching the 6.5GB)

However, the PC now will not except two drives running together without Device Manager telling me they're running in MS-DOS compatibility mode file sytem.

I've checked the connections, jumpers, formatted, scandisk, fdisk - and nothing! As soon as a 2nd drive goes in it switches to the compatibility mode!

Both drives always appear in Explorer. Device Manager properties say "Primary IDE controller (dual FIFO) has been dynamically disabled." And there's a red cross by the Generic IDE DiskType01.

    I'm lost. Please help!

There were no NOIDE values in the registry - which is odd. So I took the easy way out and installed Windows 2000. Problem solved without any prompting from me. Stupid WINDOWS ME!!!
