My OS is Windows XP Sp3, and I make sure that it is up to date..
But there's an update that bothers me, it's the Security Update for SQL Server 2005 for SP2.. It asks for a directory to look for sql_run.msi, i have found an exactly similar file but it doesn't accept the file.. What should i do? you guys think the update is important or not? please help..

    Hi

Curious one for XP unless your using SQL, but are you using Microsoft Access as SQL compact edition is generally added for support and this update may come to update that, but not noticed any updates for Vista for SQL as I have SQL Compact on this PC.

Could as its not finding components to update that this update is not a required one for you but accidently cropping up some random ones do slip into the wrong update list at times as as its holidays may take a week or so to be resolved.

Which route are you checking for updates, via XPs Windows Update, online at Microsoft Update?

When did this update popup in your list?

Is the KB number to this one KB954606? just checking and info is here on this update.

I have a Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 installed in my computer which I frequently use to make .aspx pages because I'm a student.

Uhm, I have Windows Update automatically on so it popped up right away, as soon as I have installed the Web Developer.

And yes, it's KB number is KB954606..

And thank you for the concern. :D

    Hi

If you have not rebooted from installing Web Dev 2005 then do so and try the update again, many applications need a reboot before they are fully installed, which "could" explain why it never found a component first time as it wasnt registered with the system yet.... not upto speed with Web Dev applications so dunno if a previous few updates dor Web Dev 2005 where needed before this SQL update, so check if Web Dev 2005 is fully upto date.

If its failing via WU then try the manual download here
