Setting default OS for dual boot

Hi PPl,
am a newbie but have lotta interest. so wont be much trouble to help.. thanks in advance for members..

I have installed win xp and linux ubuntu.. dual boot..
i want winxp to boot every time and i dont want to wait for 30 annoying secs at start up..

my boot.ini file is

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

i dont know why it shows only one os here <if it shows..>

any more information needed?

to have windows be the "default" booter: www.stchman.com/grub_menu.html

just change default 0 to 4

 

hi,

it only shows xp in your boot.ini file because you are using grub for your boot loader, if you look in /boot/grub/menu.lst (lst as in list not first) you will see the lines for ubuntu and xp,

you can set the timeout for loading the o/s of your choice here,
to edit your menu.lst you will need to be root

gksudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst

will bring your list up for editing

to edit your xp boot.ini file, open it with a text editor and change the timeout from 30 to whatever,

i dual boot w2k and mandriva linux
