setup a vpn connection

    Im trying to setup a VPN on a vista desktop connecting to XP pro. I have not done this before, so could someone give me details on how. Like when I put in the IP address to the XP how do I know that it is trying to connect to the right PC? The XP is not behind a router, just a modem and a netgear switch. Does the XP modem have to have a static IP address? What services need to be started on both PCs? Or is there an easier way to do this?
    Please help?
