    Hi,
    Many thanks to your help over a year and a half ago.

    McAfee recently located Fake-Alert-Fake Spy and said it was deleted. Two more popped up also as registry errors. My system has been running very slow, on internet access, even with DSL.. long load times have me concerned, which occurred before the Trojans. Artemis popped up while running the basic cleaning. I didn't realize desktop needs to be clean, and some files are outdated. New downloads only were used, and updated as needed for initial cleaning. Spybot showed the 3 files as active at start-up.. so they were clicked off. As I was concerned about running scans with AV turned off. Ctfmon was also turned off.. as a concern. Will remove MS Office and replace with Open Office likely.. hoping to eliminate potential problems with ctfmon if possible.

    Logs below, but combo fix was run (first time) out of order. I expected to find 2 logs, but only the second one remained. 2 files were "found and fixed" in the first pass. All scans ran as indicated. I do have concerns re: potential "monitor activity" as angry GF had access previously. Will need to research how to identify (valid?) monitor programs to delete if they exist.

    I did not yet restore, as instructions for XP did not jive with "my computer-properties".. no tab shown. I did locate Admin functions in Control panel, but did not yet cycle Restore, awaiting instructions.

    As before your help and support here is GREATLY appreciated. Jerry

    I should note.. MsOffice 2003 was loaded from legal disk, but is now identified by MS as not valid. It was purchased through school plan at Indiana University. And may only need to be un/reinstalled. But it has not caused known problems otherwise (unless prohibiting full updates). Please advise there. Ctfmon, had not caused known problems, but only saw it listed with other posts/issues. As stated, internet access, which was "instant" before now might require 5-15 seconds on nearly every page refresh or load. Last file included. Thanks Jerry

    Ad-Aware 2007 <--- Very outdated, very ineffective! Uninstall it.

    What are your concerns with ctfmon? :confused

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Folder::
    c:\documents and settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\kxqufrfae
    c:\documents and settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\iwesugiaf
    c:\documents and settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\hsustssdx

    Registry::
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run-]
    "SpybotSD TeaTimer"=-
    "qcirsetn"=-
    "Messenger (Yahoo!)"=-
    "dldplevt"=-
    "ctfmon.exe"=-
    "bvmrdsvn"=-
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run-]
    "QuickTime Task"=-
    "REGSHAVE"=-
    "SunJavaUpdateSched"=-
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670}]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670}\NoExplorer]

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      [IMG]

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Mcafee should stop complaining after completing the above. ;)

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Thanks for the speedy reply!

    Ad-Aware has been uninstalled. See previous post re: ctfmon 'concerns'... not really a issue here.

    AV was turned off.. C:\MGtools\analyse.exe ran fine. ComboFix with script file appeared to run ok, and produced a new log (posted below). But when running C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat it appeared to run OK.. but did not produce a new zip log(?). The target computer was off-line, as I don't have a router and my lap top is being used for all instruction pages.

    So.. if you need that log.. just let me know and I will try again. Does the original need to be deleted? Or does it need to be on-line? Or if running it (via double click) from Explore list in C:\MGtools\getlogs.bat is proper method? I did include the only MGlogs.zip file below, but the time stamp shows it to be the first run file. (And apparently it's a duplicate, cause it won't attach!)

    Many thanks for all of your efforts! Jerry

    I put it on line, and re-ran C:\MGtools\getlogs.bat.. with new zip file produced and attached (hopefully) below...

    Let me know what to run next if needed! :) Jerry

    Those logs look good now. :)

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
      related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
        for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
