Severe malware problems (not sure how to identify it)

The whole incident started with pop ups by "Internet Speed Monitor." I had run Spybot and gotten rid of bunch of files called "Command Service." But I was still stuck with the pop up and a bunch of suspicious processes that still refuse to go away--And they were fooling my computer into thinking there was no HDD to boot. After rooting it out manuelly, I was able to get rid of the ISMPack and whatever it was that was causing the HDD error, but this one is being a stubborn little bastard:

    LSSrvc.exe

I've run CCleaner and I've already run CounterSpy and, while it's taken out most of the trash Spybot wasn't able to, even CS was unable to get rid of this. I wanted to run BD and PandaScan, but the sites wouldn't let me. Do you know how I might be able to get rid of this? I know for a fact it's not supposed to be there.

BTW, while I'm here I might as well ask about something weird that happened with Spybot: When it failed to remove all the malware and ads, I figured I'd update it but every time I tried, it would read, "invalid floating point." When I circumvented the it by using the start menu, it denied me again, but this time saying, "An outside source has corrupted this program." Is SpyBot even reliable anymore? Can I trust it to not have been tampered with ever again?

One more thing: I've been trying to remove CounterSpy from by machine, but it refuse to let me from the Control Panel. What's the deal?

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    First a few questions.
    1. Why didn't you attach the requested log from CounterSpy?
    2. When you tried to run BitDefender and Panda, what browser were you using and what exactly happened?
    3. Why do you have no antivirus and no firewall applications installed?
    4. Do you know what the below is?
      • O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ISMPack6] "C:\Program Files\ISM2\ISMPack6.exe"
Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.1_02

Run HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {44A3BC3F-0E9E-423F-811D-569C55234475} - C:\WINNT\system32\mlljg.dll
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmapz.exe] C:\WINNT\system32\dmapz.exe
    O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe
    O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINNT\web\related.htm
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINNT\web\related.htm
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: fccdcby - fccdcby.dll (file missing)
O23 - Service: Microsoft Internet Explorer - Unknown owner - C:\WINNT\system32\_svchost.exe (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Now please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program does not require an installation. The executable actually runs the program.

NOTE: This program is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only. ATF Cleaner will remove all files from the items that are checked so if you have some cookies you'd like to save. Please move them to a different directory first.
    • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    • Under Main choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
    If you use Firefox browser
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
    If you use Opera browser
    • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main ATF Cleaner menu to close the program.

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. Avenger
    2. GetRunKey
    3. ShowNew
    4. HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 8 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

Truth be told, I didn't know how to grab its log.

When I tried to get the online scan from BitDefender, I just kept clicking the download link but it wouldn't do anything and the only option I was allowed was the offline version.

I'm not exactly sure how to install/use a firewall. And the only anti-virus I ever had was Norton and SpyBot. Norton caused more trouble than it helped and SpyBot's software keeps getting hijacked by the malware code. They really need to do something to counter that.

Nope. It's definitely the Internet Speed Monitor I referred to, but I'm not sure how it got there.

Anywho, I'll try implementing your instructions and then I'll post the logs. Thanks.

Oh yeah, I also forgot to mention that my Browser is Netscape and the PandaScan wouldn't allow the scan because I wasn't using IE 5.0 or above.

Okay, I've done everything you asked and everything went well enough.

I think my registry's been fragmented though: Everytime I enter My Computer, I get an error message that tells me there's no HDD present. I just keep clicking the continue prompt till it lets me access the files, but it's pretty cumbersome. I also tried clicking on SpyBot and it's basically unusable now.

I noticed the "ISMPack6.exe" and the CounterSpy crap in the HijackThis scan as well. I wanted to delete them, but I didn't want to skip ahead; is it okay for me to get rid of them?

I haven't been experiencing the usual IE pop-ups in the middle of my desktop. It happens at random moments though, so I'm hoping it just won't show up.

    Other than that, everything's nominal.

Okay but I asked what browser were you using because the READ ME specifically indicates that you MUST use IE. And now you are saying you were using Netscape which is not what the READ ME requested and it is why you could not run Bitdefender and Panda.

Spybot is not an antivirus program. Norton is but it is unacceptable to have no antivirus installed even if it was causing you headaches. What you have now is worse that what Norton could do to you. Also there are many free and better alternatives to using Norton.

I don't know what you mean. I have never notice any such problem. Please explain exactly what you are talking about.

Okay uninstall the CounterSpy trial program since we are finished with it now.

Run HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

Well, everytime I start getting pop ups and suspicious processes, naturally I run Spybot. It used to be that I'd run it and it did its job with no errors at all. Lately however, when I've been getting spyware and malware, I've been getting error messages from SpyBot when I run it and try to update it. At first, it was my assumption that the spyware and malware were doing things to the SpyBot causing these "Invalid Floating Point" messages. Then when I try to update, I get a prompt that literally says, "This software has been tampered with by an outside source." I figure the malware is the only thing that could be causing it to operate incorrectly. When I tried to use it last night I got an error message that wouldn't allow to me run it--The message was gibberish, so I can't quote it.

Anywho, since I've followed your instructions it's actually working now and I haven't get the "There's no HDD present" error message. No pop-ups either.

    Everything seems nominal.

You're logs are clean. Just delete the below left over folder from uninstalling CounterSpy:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Sunbelt Software

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps. When you get to step 11 you will see information on getting free antivirus and firewall programs along with many other tips. Make sure to follow all steps!
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix, you can delete the ComboFix.exe file, C:\ComboFix folder, C:\QooBox folder, C:\WINDOWS\nircmd.exe, and the C:\combofix.txt log that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    9. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    10. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
