Hi. My monitor picture has recently started shaking every once in a while. Is this a sign that the picture tube needs to be replaced or could this be a virus that I picked up? Thanks for your help.

What is resolution and refresh rate set at, refresh rate could be set to high.
    Cheap or failing power supply?
Wall outlet where PC pluged into supply, current is fluxuating, or too many other things plugged into ciruuit?
Video drivers, made any changes or updated lately?
added any new hardware or programs lately?

Can you connect monitor to another PC see if same problem still present?

Any other problems? Doubt a bug or virus would only make monitor picture shake once in while.

Is thier reset switch or reset fuction on monitor.

don't want to step on some toes here :)

i've heard a lot of people complaining about this too.. untill it came out they placed theri mobile right next to the moniotr.. which, when it's searches for a network, causes probs like these :)

;) I agree, i always used to keep my mobile at the side of my monitor, and everytime the battery was loosing power, the mobile rang, or a txt message was received the monitor went crazy, lines running up and down, screen flickerin, i solved the problem by smashing the screen.....lol, only jokin. Just look for the obvious, then follow the knowledgable folks advice on here, they're very helpfull:)

Not only mobile phones, but other devices, if placed near the monitor, can cause that sort of behaviour. I had an old monitor that would get shaky when a fan was running next to it. If things aren't shielded well you can get all sorts of interference. As mentioned, I've also seen this problem caused by the refresh rate being too high for the monitor... good luck!

Second that, i used to have a desk fan running under my desk next to the VGA cable and it would make little lines across the screen.

If its shaking like its degaussing, that could be the degauss circuit starting to die. If its not another device causing it, then you might wanna get an expert to look at it. Fw is good with hardware stuff like this... ill see if i can get his attention ;)

    I got good solid toes!
Now that I think about it, had similar problem, with my sons mobile near his PC, also has sound disturbance when phone rang.

    Noted, another possibility.

    attention gotten.
As goldy says, the degausing circuit may be going, when your picture shakes do you hear a clicking noise? That's a sure fire indication it's the coils misfiring. Aside from that, look to external sources that have been mentioned already. If it is your degausing coils then they're relatively easy to fix, but unless your comfortable with a soldering iron and some very high currents I would not recommend that you open the case without someone that knows what's going on present.

Don't forget about the possibility of a video card problem (which I've experienced a "drizzling").

    My02c,
Those trendy little 12v lights have a transformer in the base that also gives weird monitor effects if positioned too close.

Shiloh. Don't know whether this will help, I have never used it so all the usual disclaimers apply but check out http://tinyurl.com/3ad99 for QuickGamma.

To quote from a magazine review, " A small utility program which will work on most operating systems to calibrate a monitor without having to buy expensive hardware tools"

To quote from the reviewer " I used it by following the excellent help file and it works".

    END OF QUOTES.:)

Let us know the solution when you solve your proble. Bazza

Oh actually, I think i have a monitor with a simelar problem, and its the input pins that are going dodgey. Its the edge of the screen that slightly blurry and wobbles. Hmm, no so useful.
