I’m building a new system for a friend of mine who owns a small accounting business and I am hoping a few of you will take a second and shoot constructive holes in my build idea. This will be a strictly business system, he runs Norton, Acrobat 9, a few accounting programs nobody has ever heard of (not resource hogs), Microsoft Office, and he does light web surfing and e-mail. This system will never be used to play any games, video editing, or anything else that requires video card muscle. For this reason, I think the onboard video on the mobo should be fine for him. I realize the PSU and RAM may be overkill, but we both believe these make up the foundation of a stable system. Since this computer is for his business, the most important factor is system stability, besides (of course) being able to run all of his software which I know it will do. It will run Windows 7 professional. BTW, it will have two of the listed hard drives below b/c he likes to back up internally that way and the system will be run with an Acer 22” monitor. Thanks in advance.

Yes, the PSU is overkill though it is an excellent PSU and should last for a very long time. I don't believe the RAM is overkill as depending on the size of the files he's working on, he may need all of it. You didn't state a video card though that PSU can handle any single card with ease. How's the power situation over there where he works? Does he have any issues like brownouts or spikes etc.? He may want to invest in a UPS. It's a decent business machine and should be satisfied with it.

The mobo has this built in:

    ATI Radeon HD 4200 GPU
    SidePort Memory - onboard 128MB DDR3 1333 memory

and I am hoping it will be adequate for him. If not, I may spend $65 of his money and put in a Saphire HD 4650.

LOL, that's what I get for skimming.:-o Ya, a 4650 should be way more than enough!

Looks good, except for the HD.
Deskstar? Better known as "Death Star" for a very good reason.
    I'd go with Seagate.;)

You say he runs Norton? Why? That monstrosity is enough to slow down ANY system.
That's one program (suite) that I remove from every system that I work on.
With the owners permission, of course.

There are many other AV programs that do a much better job and don't take such a hit on system performance. Most of the best AV programs are also FREE. Norton is never free and you have to buy it all over again, every year. Where's the logic in that?:cry

    Good Luck,
    The Shadow :cool

Thx for the advice on the HD. He is older and set in his ways about Norton. I don't like it either.
