Should External HDD be Primary OR Logical ?

Just bought a 2 TB Seagate GoFlex HDD to store data & video Files.

It shows single Primary Partition.

Should I keep it as it is Primary OR do I need to make it Logical ?

Also should it be made active if it is kept as Primary ?

What if I want to make 3 Partitions, again just to separate data files & video Files ?

How then should they be made ? All Primary or one Primary & other 2 Logical OR entirely different ?

As it is never going to host an operating system it doesn't matter whether its partitions are primary or logical, though you must have at least one primary, which will also be flagged as active. However the active flag serves no purpose where no OS is being installed.

 

It is not flagged as active.

If I decide to Partition it in more than one partition, should I just keep only one as aPrimary & rest as Logical or keeping all of them as primary wouldn't hurt ?

You can have up to four primary partitions on a drive. If you want more than four then one is converted to an extended logical within which you can create as many logicals as you want. Functionally it makes no difference whether data partitions are primary or logical, it just changes the order in which letters are assigned.
