I have a program that keeps crashing. What sort of process is usually done to determine what the cause is?

The program is Sky Index. Operating system is Vista Home Premium. I think I posted about it before but I don't think we really got anywhere. Is there anything I can do to try to pinpoint the cause of the crashing? Logs from Event Viewer maybe?

I believe that their technical support has already been contacted... Didn't help much. The software has been updated and is supposed to be Vista compatible.

    If you've updated to SP4
    http://www.sky-software.com/General/vista_compatibility.htm
then contact both the software company and MS. Are you getting any options to send error reports to MS? If so, send them.
When contacting the software company ask them what procedure to use to send logs of errors.

I figured that I'd probably have to go through them eventually. I didn't really see a way for anyone here to do much about it not knowing anything about the program, but I thought I'd give it a try. Thanks for the reply. I have sent error reports to MS and have also looked through event viewer logs. I will ask my mom(it's her buisness software) to get in touch with their tech support again and see what I can do about getting them error reports and logs. Thanks.

If Sky-software doesn't respond...consider posting on some forums about the lack of response from them and software tht doesn't work properly. Bad internet reports eventually get noticed by a company and forces them to either fix the software they sell or lose sales as people complain and tell others not to buy the software.

    Hi

Yes this may hold a clue, when the application crashes, what is the exact error message ( if any ) shown on-screen?

Then once it has crashed, goto the Event Viewer ( just type in the start scarch box event ) and once loaded goto the section Windows Logs > Application and look for the error, double click it to open the log for that error and tell us the Event ID and paste (copy) the log into notepad text file and attach.

Also try this for me right click the Sky Index applications shortcut and choose Run as Administrator, does the application now work ok, with no crashes?
