Slow computer at work

One of my computers at work is very slow. I know that it has low memory, but am hoping somone knowledgable here may be able to help me fix any issues that may be causing it to slow down (it used to be much faster).

Hello Dashakan,

As you probably already know, your logs are clean. Some suggestions below none of which are malware related:

From Add/Remove Programs (via Control Panel), please uninstall the below:

• J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
• Java(TM) 6 Update 31
• McAfee Security Scan Plus => McAfee Removal Tool
• McAfee Virus and Spyware Protection Service => McAfee Removal Tool

Now Reboot

Please download Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to your desktop.

• Double-click MessengerDisable.exe to run it.
• Place checkmarks in "Uninstall Windows Messenger" and "Hide Messenger from Outlook Express"
• Click Apply
• Click Exit

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double-clicking it (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
Shut down your protection software now (antivirus, antispyware...etc) to avoid possible conflicts.
Choose "Do a system scan only" and select the following lines but do not click fix until you exit all explorer windows and all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

1. O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IgfxTray] C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxtray.exe
2. O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HotKeysCmds] C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe

4. O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IAAnotif] "C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager\Iaanotif.exe"
5. O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SoundMAXPnP] C:\Program Files\Analog Devices\Core\smax4pnp.exe
6. O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PDVDDXSrv] "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD DX\PDVDDXSrv.exe"
7. O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe ARM] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0\AdobeARM.exe"
8. O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [Malwarebytes Anti-Malware] C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe /install /silent

After clicking Fix, exit out of Trend Micro HiJackThis - v2.0.4

Thank you very much for taking the time to look at this. A question though, won't removing McAfee leave me vulnerable?

 

Yes. However this is probably the biggest culprit of your computer's slowness combined with the amount of memory you have.

I wouldn't even recommend installing an antivirus until you have 1.5GB of memory and even then I wouldn't recommend McAfee as its one of the bulkier ones available.

Try Microsoft Security Essentials instead.
