I completed the xp cleaning procedure and still have an unreliable internet connection. My cable provider says the connection is fine so I'm thinking it may be malware that is causing it. I couldn't save the AVG antispyware log, but here are the other two.
    Thankyou for your time,

You have a few minor things to fix in your HJT log but nothing that would cause connections issues.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {E0E899AB-F487-11D5-8D29-0050BA6940E3} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

You will have to decribe in significantly more detail what you mean by

Also have you tried another browser instead of Avant to see if you still have an issue?

    Chas,
    I did as you suggested.
By unreliable internet connection I mean sometimes it is really slow (30 seconds to load a page) or I cannot get a connection without first unplugging my modem and sometimes it is fast. I am going to try changing my cable splitter.
Thanks a lot for your time

You're welcome. Also check your router (if you use one) for issues.

The cable company came out and the slow connection is their fault.
However every time I load a page my address bar shows 'About:Blank'
before my home page loads. My cable guy says that this is a virus, can I get rid of it?

That's an incorrect assumption! You did not have an about:blank hijacker and you more than like still do not. It could just be a lag in loading your pages. Many people set their start page to about:blank (it is a choice in Internet Explorer. See the Use Blank button and then that is what you will get when you start IE).

You can attach a new log from MGtools by doing the below but I doubt we will see a problem.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created

    Chas,
Thanks, I'm pretty sure it's just a lag but here is the log just in case:

Still basically clean but I do suggest you do the below.

Also delete all files in the below folder except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp\

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    2. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
