So, what do you cool your 8800GT with?

I have several EVGA 8800GT cards running F@H (100% load, 24/7). They seem to overclock well, but then become unstable after a day or so. I suspect heat, as these suckers are hot as heck to the touch.

I am looking into aftermarket cooling, but usually buy for ATI cards. I did order one of these to try: http://www.svc.com/fan-acces1.html. I plan on rigging a 120mm fan on it. Ordered some extra goodies like ram sinks as well.

I am behind in my PPD, need to overclock these cards and get some points!

A bit off topic, but I also have an ATI 3870 X2 that could use some better cooling if anyone has any experience with them.

    Thanks.

I have an EVGA 8800GT SC and have had stability problems with it as well, most likely due to overheating.

I haven't really had any of these problems after I began to bump up the fan speed before doing anything graphics intense. I usually use the Nvidia Control Panel. Go to Adjust GPU settings under Performance, and at the bottom it will have GPU fan settings. I then select direct fan control and slide it over to about 80% or so. This seems to have kept me from crashing.

Got mine running RivaTuner with the fans at 100%. But they are HOT to the touch... GPUZ shows the temps on on at 57C at full load.

I just feel there is some nice overclocking potential there, just got to cool them.

I am not into gaming and over clocking but a good friend of mine who spends half his life (or more rolleyes) gaming says liquid cooling is the only way to go.

Going H2O is a great way to cool a PC. Been there and done it. Just think a better air solution is out there. I am curious to see how the air solution I ordered works.

We shall see in a few days...

I don't think that 57C at full load is too hot for the 8800GT.

That's before overclocking though, right? I'm not sure how much overclocking will increase the heat, I guess it would depend on how much you overclock...

But... I mean... My temp right now is 56C and I just have a few Firefox windows open with HWmonitor. Of course, I don't have the fan speed up, but even when I have the fan speed up and am playing Crysis or something, the heat goes up higher than that. But... 56C is 132F(or so), so yeah, it will be hot to touch.. I'm not saying you shouldn't lower the temp, I'm just saying I wouldn't worry if they're in the 50-60C range. Hope it helps

Not sure about the o/c temp, will check it before I replace the cooler. I also found some other parts of the GPU to cool. I get BSODs when I overclock it, so it is most likely heat, or might just be a card that does not like to be overclocked! Should be quieter though. I got a passive cooler and will rig a 120mm fan on it.

It probably doesn't really matter for you and me because we manually control our fan speeds(at least, most of the time) but there is a BIOS update available at EVGA's site that...
    Improves fanspeed auto sensor
Improves compatibility with certain PCIe Gen1 motherboards

Improves fanspeed auto sensor would be helpful if you let it automatically set the fanspeed.

I guess it's not very helpful at the moment because you manually control it, but I thought it might help someone to know that it's available to help remedy the very poor auto-control.

I have been slowly cranking this sucker up and it is getting some impressive F@H points when overclocked! It should be done with a 480 Point WU in 2 hours 13mn totall time!

Getting 5100 to 5300 PPD on just one card! Can't wait for better cooling so I can really crank it up.

Got my new cooling stuff in and on the card! Temps went up about a degree on the GPU, went down a few degrees on the PCB acording to GPU-Z.

But it is so quiet... Ohhh so quiet! I love it! Running 3DMark06 now with a higher overclock! Temps are nice. And did I mention it is quiet!:-D

Got 12211 3DMarks. Not too shabby for a 8800GT. Time to crank it up!

Any GPU overclocking experts here? I have flashed a BIOS and done a little with RivaTuner, out of my experience here. I have the GPU core at 679MHz GPU Memory Clock at 963MHz, and the Shader Clock it at 1697.

Any pointers? FAH is crankin a little over 5K a day now. Sweet! This is on an EVGA 8800GT with DDR3 512MB.

Got it to 687 1717 971 (core, shader, memory) 58C for the GPU temp... I am liking this card. And it is so quiet!

    692 1730 975

    F@H shows 5184 PPD. 58C Damn.

Well, looks like this works. A little over 5k PPD Folding... 700 core 1750 shader, 979 Memory clock. GPU temp 55C... how the heck do you beat this card? :-D
