    Hi again,

So in going through the getting started stuff and doing all these scans (according to the directions given here), I have gotten to the end of the process more or less but have run into a small problem.

I finished up this last round and ran Panda Active scan which was the only thing that really found anything malicious. I tried to download their free trial removal software but I am getting the notice that my free AVG virus software (which I got here last year) is incompatable and I would have to remove it to continue down loading panda's software.

Of course that's my virus protection and am not sure how to continue?

I'll be back to post my logs (gotta go make sure I do it right) and such, as so far these scans etc..haven't helped the origional problem. Although if I could get that stuff that panda active scan actually found off, maybe it would help!?

    Thanks for any help,
    Autumn

as a genral rule, you should not try to have more than 1 antivirus program running on your computer at any time. each program tried to maintain exclusive control over the computer-- trying to run two could create a battle between them, which is why there is a conflict.

If you like AVG, stick with it. If you think it might not be what you want, I strongly recommend Avast free home edition. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=1968

Oh so this panda scan disinfect tool is an antivirus thing? I thought it was like the ad-ware se personal thing I run and am able to remove "critical objects" with. That, I am pretty sure i can run in conjunction to an antivirus program because they are slightly differrent....right?

Soooo I am following the instructions at this thread:
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=84027

and then this thread as directed above:
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

which tells me to use panda to get into a "known state" so others here can help...

So should I uninstall AVG at least for now and run this panda thing instead?

    THANKS!
