Software install question.

Hi all,

I have XP with separate accounts for the kids. I would like to add internet blocking to protect their eyes from the bad stuff. Should this be installed at the admin level or within each child's start page.

Note: The programs/utilities that I list on that thread are all freeware and/or donationware versions - but all are FREE to use, although on their sites you are sometimes encouraged by the website's developers to make a modest donation if you find them very useful. Also, I actually tested the three programs listed a while back using Windows XP and they are all XP compatible.

Oh Anytime Rob... My pleasure, really!

Be sure to thoroughly look at all of the options available and thoroughly read through all of the help files when you get a chance; particularity if you chose Parental Filter. You can really get a heck of a lot of mileage out of that one; as its configurability is outstanding.

Most of the sites which carry that 'Parental Filter' program imply that it is just a simple porn blocker; primarily because it does that well; but it can do a lot more than that if users take the time to a good look at the various assortments and combinations of available.

You can also try a more hi-tech 'real-time' parental internet filtering program called Naomi Internet Filter which works by filtering the actual data on adult websites as well as sites with violent content; not by any arbitrary lists of banned websites.

The interface is password protected to prevent unauthorized disabling of the filter (the password is chosen during the installation). Whenever a problem is detected, it automatically shuts down the browser program prior to the website being loaded which prevents kids from seeing anything offensive before it is even loaded.
