Somethin' Strange!...

Hello- A couple of weeks ago, a guy here helped me go through this machine for any viral content. Nothing was found. The OS is still acting up off and on, so I posted on Software and was redirected back here from a couple of contributors.

Windows XP Pro x86 Sp3, avast! Internet Security 7, Google Chrome browser.
In 'services.msc', the 3 services that govern Chrome updates keep disabling themselves. I have uninstall/installed Chrome a couple of times, and it is slow, new tabs don't open quickly like they used to, and GMail is slow to open.

Chkdsk has a problem after running- it reboots after complete, boots to a black screen with a working cursor. After 20-25 mins., it loads through the Windows Welcome screen, and there is the desktop- minus half the icons and no taskbar. The only way to get it back is via a reboot> F8> Last known Good...
Thinking something had gone awry, I ran 'sfc /scannow'... no help there.

In Recovery Console, I am now asked for an Admin Password that I am clueless about.

I completely agree with you, Kestrel13!. You have helped me before, as has TimW. I am learning how to interpret the scan results from the different utilities, and there are no threats in the system. I came back here because I was advised to, and now I can say that I did.
I have corrected the issues within this system- that being some minor conflicts between a program and the OS.
