Sony Vaio possibly over heating?

Hi,
I have a sony vaio pcg - fr315m and its a great machine. However, recently it has been doing a strange thing, the system fan (which is fairly noisy anyway) keeps turning on and off.It goes on for 5 sec ish then off for the same, over and over again. This cant be right can it?
The machine gets pretty hot (its on pretty much all day every day), i dont know exactly how hot though.
Does this sound like theres something wrong in there?

Sorry its a vague question but if there is something going wrong in there I wanna catch it before it goes fully wrong!

try this MBM5 it will tell you the temp of your cpu then Go Here to find what is the max temp for your cpu

Cheers guys, that first link to MBM needs to know exactly which MB I have, but how do I find that out in a lappy? the sys info tells me my Bios and a few places on the web tell me the chipset but I cant find anyone who can tell me the actuall MB type. Any ideas where I can get that info from?

Oh, that second link was indeed helpful, sadly it was a bit vague on my processor, a P4 2.66. Cheers tho, interesting site!
