Sound card and microphone... again

    Hey there,

I am having some trouble using my microphone with my sound card. I have done everything the microsoft help troubleshoot has advised. I have unmuted the microphone section in the volume control, I have turned everything up, I've tried putting the microphone not only in 'mic,' but the other two ports as well, namely speakers and line.

The microphone works on other computers - I tried it on my roommate's computer - but it will not work on mine. The name on the microphone is this:

    audio-technica omnidirectional ATR35s

I understand that in order to fix the problem I should know what type of sound card I have. When looking at the Device Manager to see what type of card I have all I find is this:

    Unimodem Full-Duplex Audio Device
    Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver

What other information should I supply in order to find out how to configure to my sound card to use a microphone, or if I need to get a new one? Thanks a lot for your help!

I posted this question a few weeks ago with one reply, supplying me with information that I already knew. I'm reposting this because apparently nobody wanted to reply to the other thread... thanks again!

Have you updated your sound card recently, that is the first step

I updated the driver recently, yes. According to dxdiag the driver I have installed was from August 10, 2006. VIA doesn't make it very easy to find drivers from their site, so I'm assuming this is the latest one. Here is a portion of what dxdiag said:

I don't know if that is too much or not enough info. Thanks for your reply, and I hope that what I provided can help come up with a solution... I certainly don't know what else to do.

Esuule: HAVE YOU SOLVED YOUR PROBLEM?? I am having the same problem w/ my sound card. All is working but the Mic. I have come to the conclusion that this sound card is an intergrated sound with the mobo. And the only solution is to install a New and better Sound card and Driver. I have the same sound card that you have. Let me know if you fixed your problem and if so how you solved it. Hope to hear form you. ODIE:)

I never really solved the issue. I ended up getting a new computer for Christmas, so I've kinda given up on the sound card issue on the other computer. I think I remember the mic working on the computer a few years ago, but I'm not sure. I never got a reply from here or other places so I really don't know what to do. Sorry man, and good luck.

Esuule: Thanks for the reply. I never tried to use the mic on this new computer ( 2 years old) now. Mine is a intergrated sound card, so it has the limited issue of mic not in use. ODIE:)
