Sound card problems after installing maxtor ext. hd

I just installed a maxtor ext. hd using the windows partition (the maxtor cd stated to use this method) but first I made sure the drivers were installed properly using this software. The maxtor is in a mad dog ext. enclosure by the way. Since installing this thing my sound card Realtek sound card won't startup and I have to continously uninstall and reinstall it to get it up and going. I checked windows update and I have looked around to see what else I can do and Need help for this issue.

 

Now when I startup I get stuck on windows welcome screen I push ctl alt del and it starts up regular without a reboot. I also get a zone alarm message stating 'realtek sound manager may be trying to prevent soundman from running each time your computer is started.'
