Spybot vs MS Windows Defender

From long ago I have installed in my machine MS Windows Defender, but recently I followed The Read & Run Me First Tutorial from the Malware Removal Forum, and I installed Spybot.

My dilemma is wich one should I keep? Could I keep both or that will cause problems in the long term?

I think it probable would be best to keep spybot, but i'd prefer someone who knows better to helpme decide.

    Thanks.

The malware guys removed Windows Defender from a scanning tool a while back, it just seems almost useless.

Windows Defender and Spybot don't conflict, however. I run both with no problems - I keep Defender because it's free, and has a realtime shield. If I could find another anti-spyware with those characteristics, I'd probably replace it.

I did some search and found the same greenknight says. Since the guys from the malware forum don't recomend to use the tea timer function of spybot (i think is the real protection ), i guess it's couldn't hurt to keep my windows defender (after all it is free).

I guess i could follow zbd21 advise but I don't like to be installing and uninstalling software if it's not necessary.

    Thnaks for your replies guys.

Lol, Spybot has a realtime shield, tea timer.

I use both for the occasional scan and only have Spybot's Teatimer running in the background (which can be annoying when it asks me for the same confirmations every time I boot).

It would be interesting If someone from the malware forum explain why they recommend not use tea timer, i'll ask in the malware forum and post the reply here.

I think it could be educational. Lol

    I think it's because it's really annoying.
Like I mentioned above, it likes to ask the same things every single time you boot. I somehow managed to get rid of a couple, but why the others still pop up I have no idea. I think its only purpose is to check for registry changes, but most of the time you're aware of them, such as (un)installing software. I've personally never had a confirmation dialog I was unaware of, but then again I'm not careless with downloading and other Internet-related things.

I run a tight pc, so I dumped AdAware SE and Win Defender. Good programs, but I no longer need their services.

Not sure if I'd call tea timer a realtime shield for malware. Rather a real time shield for registry and startup changes. Can get annoying. :(

I should have said, if I find a trustworthy, reliable app with those features... As far as I'm concerned, the jury's still out on Spyware Terminator, it has a rather questionable pedigree.

@ Major Attitude - I lol at the idea of Teatimer as a realtime shield, too.

And then there's Arovax Shield - another one I'm not quite sure about.

Since reading these posts, I have dumped both Ad-aware and Windows Defender and have installed Spyware Terminator. It seems to be a good, easy to use program. :)
