I had spysheriff on my computer and tried many tutorials from different websites and was unable to get rid of it. I finally used the tutorial on this website and the red x with the pop up warning no longer comes on. When I notice this, I though I had gotten rid of the problem. But, my computer is slower than ever and IE windows freeze and close on their own pretty frequently and I can't visit certain websites. It just shows a white, blank page. Someone please help me out.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what tutorial here you followed but you still need to follow the one below because you are still infected:

    SpySheriff (aka SpywareNo) Removal

Follow ALL steps (especically step 1 as I can see it was not run yet). Also do not skip following this link in step 3 : Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis because you have HijackThis installed improperly.

You have a few other issues too besides SpySheriff that we will need to fix after you complete the above.

Note older versions of LimeWire contain malware and no P2P programs are really a good idea to run. If your version of Limewire is not the newest, you should uninstall it.

Also note that you OS & IE versions are way out of date and represent a major security risk. This must be addressed after fixing your current problems (and there are a bunch).

Some of them are nasty worms!

To help keep you moving along (I will not be aroun much today). Here are more things to do after completing previous instructions. Also make sure you install HJT properly before continuing here. Some of these steps will also double check some of what you have already run and thus you may not see certain items anymore. That's okay. Just ignore and continue.

Look in Add/Remove programs for the below and uninstall if found:
    TheSearchAccelerator
    UCMore Toolbar

If you are using WinXP or WinMe, make sure you have system restore disabled (per the tutorial).
For all OS types, make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Please run HijackThis and click on the "Open the Misc Tools Section" button on the open page. Then select "Open process manager" on the left-hand side. Look for the following process (or processes) and one at a time kill them by selecting it and then click "Kill process". Then click yes.
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\kernels32.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\sachostx.exe
    C:\Program Files\LimeWire\LimeWire.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\vxh8jkdq2.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\split1.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\inet20004\services.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\sachostc.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\sachostb.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\sachosts.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\sachostm.exe

After killing all the above processes, click "Back".
Then please click "Scan" and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete (if still found):
    C:\Program Files\SpySheriff <--- the whole folder
    C:\winstall.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\sachostx.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\inet20004\services.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System\svchost.exe <--- only delete the one in the system folder. Do not delete it from system32!
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\vxh8jkdq2.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\split1.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\kernels32.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\sachostc.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\sachostb.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\sachosts.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\sachostm.exe

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST). Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1) If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2) Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3) If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log. And tell us how things are working.
