Hello, I'm really hoping someone can help me out here.. I'm just about at my wits end :banghead I'm getting tons of popup ads including ones from "amaena.com" and others warning me about spyware. I've run every virus/spyware scanner I have including Adaware Pro, Spybot, Avast Antivirus, etc... Nothing. I can't get rid of these damn popups! :mad My Norton Internet Security was giving me headaches, so I uninstalled it and replaced it with ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite. Still nothing. I reinstalled Norton IS (better firewall) but things just got worse and worse. More error messages kept coming and other inconsistent behavior (Windows startup taking forever, programs not running, slow download speeds..)
Also, IExplorer.dll keeps showing up in my startup programs list. And I keep getting a 'Run-time error' message with the heading "fasdasdasdasad". I pretty much have lost all control of my computer and had to disable my network connection (i'm working from my laptop now).
Here is my HijackThis scan log:

Edit by chaslang: Inline HJT log removed. READ & RUN ME sticky not followed.

I have no clue what any of this means! Please, someone help me figure this out :cry
EDIT: my OS is Windows XP

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Make sure that you uninstall either Avast or Symantec Antivirus when you get to step 3 of the READ ME given below!!

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, renaming, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy. - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

I will follow the Readme Guide but I have one question. Do I need to uninstall all but one of my antivirus programs, or can I just disable them from loading at startup? The reason I ask is because I'd like to have them all available as backup scanners. If I do need to uninstall all but one, which one do you suggest I should keep? Norton IS 2007, ZoneAlarm SS, or Avast?

    Thanks for your help,
    Mike

NO! You must uninstall! Having multiple antivirus applications installed (whether you attempt to disable them or not - which will not work propelry anyway) will mess up your Windows Security Center and will make each antivirus application less effective. In addition there will still be a drain on your PC's resources because services from each will still run. And they will intefere with proper operation of the other programs. In fact, when you go to uninstall the programs now, you will probably have a problem getting them to completely uninstall correctly.

As far as recommendations, we do not recommend any security suite type packages. They are all massive resource hogs. So if you have Norton IS 2007 and also ZoneAlarm SS installed you should uninstall them both. We do like ZoneAlarm's firewall but only the firewall without the security suite.

Just wanted to let you know I have finally RESOLVED my problem!!! :celebrate I basically followed all the steps in the "READ AND RUN ME 1ST" sticky and it seems to have gotten rid of the problem. I also found a really good firewall (Outpost) and antivirus (Kaspersky), which I would highly recommend (so far)to anyone with malware/virus trouble.
The only thing now is, ever since I tried the Zonealarm SS my laptop won't connect wirelessly to my Linksys router. Even after I uninstalled ZA it still doesn't work. Somehow the Zonealarm firewall screwed up the router settings.
But this is a minor annoyance compared to what I had.
Anyway thanks to chaslang for your responses and your very helpful thread!
    Regards,
    Mike

You're welcome. You need to make sure that ALL of ZoneAlarm was uninstalled and that nothing in any firewall settings is blocking processes required for your wireless connections.

If you are not having any other malware problems, you should work thru the below:
