Hello. I have a HUGE problem and I think it has something to do with either Windows XP or McAfee.

    Here is the situation:

On March 19, 2009 at around 2:00 a.m., I ran Spyware Doctor to scan my computer. As it was scanning, McAfee popped up with a notice stating that the program in use should not be trusted. There was
a "generic.pup.z" file extension listed but it was listed under the Spyware Doctor's directory, so, I thought nothing of it and decided to allow the program to continue. McAfee notified me again of the problem
but this time, it was "generic.pup.a". Again, I told it to trust the program. I can't remember if another "gerenic.pup." file was found but I know that I trusted every one.

After Spyware Doctor was finished, it found 60 problems, including a high priority. I didn't write down what it found, but I did like I always do - let Spyware Doctor fix the problem. It did. Like always, I
restarted my system because the program takes up about 25 to 35% of my system's memory.

Here is what is weird now. Once I restarted the computer, here is the message I got when I went to restart SpyWare Doctor later on today:

"This version of Spyware Doctor is not supported on your environment.
This product cannot continue and will now close.

Please visit www.pctools.com to download an alternative version."

After I clicked on "OK", the Spyware Doctor icon is in the tray by the clock. I tried to open it again, but like before, I received the same message.

So, I figured I could un-install it, and then re-install it again, thinking maybe there is something wrong with the program all together. It won't let me un-install it! I went into Control Panel and the Add Remove
Programs. Nothing. All that comes up is a quick window to un-install and as soon as it pops up, it disappears.

After talking with Pctools (the company for Spyware Doctor), they told me to run my computer in safe mode and then un-install it. I tried that and like before, it does not work.

In between all of this, I tried restoring my computer to different dates. The computer was restored, but Spyware still did not work. Then I tried to restore it back to another restore point earlier in the year - it
    did not work.

Internet Explorer is also closing down on me.

Does anyone have any idea what is happening or has it happened to you? I hate having to post to forums on things like this - I used to help people out with their computers as a part time business years ago.
I've been out of practice, so, I don't know all of the new techniques otherwise, I wouldn't be here!

    Thanks so much!

    Wendy

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Before we go any further let's get some clarification on an important point. Your Title for this thread states Spyware Doctor with antivirus. Does this mean that you are using PC Tools Antivirus and Spyware Doctor which they offer as a package? If so, then you should not have McAfee installed because you would have two antivirus programs installed and you must NEVER do this and you would need to uninstall one immediately. Or should your title have been: Spyware Doctor not working with McAfee Antivirus

Now to continue on this subject, neither Spyware Doctor nor McAfee are malware and problems with their software are actually topics better discussed in the Software Forum. We can discuss and work on malware problems in this forum if you have any malware, but we are too busy and too understaffed to address any non-malware issues.

Restoring your computer to earlier dates has reset your registry and certain files backed up by System Restore to that date and time. Thus anything installed or modified after the restore date is no longer installed or will not have changes made after the restore date.

If your primary goal is to get Spyware Doctor uninstall, try using the below:
