Spyware: Resulted in loss of docs and files

Day before yesterday my puter locked up and I shut it down. When it came up - all my settings were gone, all my docs, etc. I found the docs in owner - new documents, and transferred them to user new docs, and reset all my settings. The same thing happened yesterday - but this time when I came up, everything was as it was - but all my documents (the ones I moved to the user directory) are all now gone.

I suspect someone used a proxy on my puter thru spyware, and hijacked the files. I have run Ad-aware and SpyHunter to delete all the existing spyware... but still can't find my documents and pictures.

Can anyone help? FYI... I am not a seasoned puter geek. I am running Windows XP.
