Spyware symptoms?

    My home page keeps going to blank, or to Web Search. Also, 4 links have been added to my favorites list, including 2 sex sites and a shopping link. Is this actual spyware, hijacker or what? There are so many downloads offered to help with these problems, and so many different opinions on which are best and actually necessary to solve the problem. It only happens on IE, I have recently installed Mozilla Foxfire and doesn't seem to have affected it, YET anyway. Any suggestions? Thank you!

    That definetely sounds like spyware. I had this coolwebWWWsearch worm infecting my computer again and again,hijacking my home page, i used to get rid of it today only to find out that there it was the following day, until i installed ad-aware from lavasoft and set the ad watch service to stop any page with that name installing on my computer, i haven't had any problem with that particular spyware anymore and i haven't had any indesirable web page taking over my computer.
    Why not try to disable the system restore. Altough you will lose your system retore points you will gain on the log run because spyware hide at the system restore to avoid being detected. Then you can run Spybot search and destroy, ad aware lavasoft and your antivirus, this will help you a lot even if you don't have ani viruses on your computer. By the way, these anty spyware companies can create restore points.

    First, please follow ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal
    If you already have any of the programs linked in the tutorial please double check your version to make sure you have the latest one and that you have any/all updates for the programs.

    NOTE: In order to resolve the issues you are having it is very important that you at least try to perform all the steps as outlined. If you have any difficulty please post back letting us know what steps you have completed, what you found while doing the scans if anything and details about any problems you have encountered in completing the steps. The more details you can provide the better.


    After doing ALL of the above if you still have a problem:

    Make sure you have HijackThis 1.99 and follow the guidelines on where to install it and how to post a log as an attachment. This is all covered in the sticky thread NO HIJACK THIS LOG FILES BEFORE READING THIS: HJT Tutorial & LOG File Posting

    Now post a HijackThis as a .txt file attachment to your message. All running programs should be closed, including your web browser, e-mail. Close before running Hijack This!

    To repeat: Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file. Place it in its own folder, for example C:\Program Files\HJT
