I have SpywareBlaster 4.2 loaded and resident on my PC, a software recommended as a Top Freeware Pick by MG. The description of this software says that "unlike other programs...." it "...does not have to remain running in the background." In layman terms, if it does not run, how does it protect? If it does "protect" against malware, is there any indication or log about what it has done, and the malware it has fended off?

Furthermore, the same queries apply for its sister freeware also by Javacool called SpywareGuard 2.2.0, not on MG's Top Freeware Pick recommended list, but recommended by Javacool to be loaded as a companion program with SpywareBlaster. What does this software exactly do in addition to what SpywareBlaster does, and what is MG's take on Javacool's recommendation on loading both freeware together? Incidentally, SpywareGuards' Definitions Date is still static at Jan 22, 2004, Program Version 2.2 !!?? While I understand from previous posts in 2004 and 2005 that Jan 22, 2004 was the last update at the time, it seems inconceivable that there have been no updates till 2009, more than 5 years later !

My query is somewhat covered in a query by scott451 in Jul 2004, which has not been replied to by anyone. Am I missing a thread somewhere which covers all this?
Can someone please help a newbie ??!!!

Thanks in advance to whoever replies!
