standard A Drive Controller / Driver Question

Hey all,

Here's the problem, I bought this computer in 2001, and i've never used the A: drive. I know crazy as it sounds, well cd's are getting scratched, so I thought I would save things to floppy.

Heres the problem: I bought IBM Formatted 1.44 disks. When I try to save to a blank one, it always says: Please insert disk. Even though there is already one in there. I do not have a floppy with data on it, to test if it will read it or not. I've been looking for drivers, however the first of my 2 cd's that i recieved when I purchesed, is now scratched.

I am running Windows ME, on an E Machine. From what i've checked, I have a standard floppy controller.

Can anyone help me figure out what's goin on, and some suggestions I may try before going off and condering that it's shot. Hard for me to belive its shot when I never used the darn thing lol..

Few things ta check:
Check device manager for problems
Check bios, is A drive recognized
Open case check cables make sure both are connected, If they are, unplug then replug maybe just loose. ( do this when PC is powered off )
Does your drive lite up when you boot, or if it's lit all the time your cable is on backwards?

Standard floppy drive can get new for around $10.

Last comment, CD's can get scratched but they are much more durable than any floppy disk, you are very limited to size on floppy & they cost more than CDr's.
