I'm thinking I rad in an earlier post in this thread, something about it, but just to re-hash. What's everyone thoughts about the new STARCRAFT? I
ve seen the trailers and reviews, I really liked the first 1, and BW, but I'm thinking the game is a lil' out dated. When it came out like 10-12 years ago, it was fantastic, but 12 years later.... I'm not so sure about it. I'm sure most all the real gamers out there have played the first one... so us being the consumers, I'd like to hear everyones thoughts.

Why people jsut follow the beautifull graphs of this video game.

Broodwar is and will be the best strategy game ever made, more than 7 years in World Cyber Games and still being the best.

Starcraft II make me cry, isn't like broodwar and never will be!

    :)

I think you are mistaking your own opinion for an established fact there. :p

Please don't troll the MG Game forum with blanket statements about how those who disagree with you are lacking in taste or intelligence. Thanks.

    EDIT:
And who cares what "World Cyber Games" think? The reason Brood War is still played professionally is because no one has released a game that surpassed it yet. That doesn't mean it's impossible, it only mean it hasn't been done yet. If anything, it mean Blizzard took too long working on the sequel.

There's thousand of new strategy games, in 12 years and no one replace broodwar.

You're too bm that sucks, that's all for me ya

Again, you are mistaking your opinion for an established fact. Brood War was good but it's not the definition of greatness just because it remains popular today. America Idol is popular too. rolleyes

Might want to ease up on the attitude, by the way. I have no problem with you disagreeing with me, but don't make it personal. Attack my opinions, not me personally. Okay?

The truth is that broodwar and vanilla SC were so fantastic because the units were crisp and easy to distinguish from each other.

This ridiculously glossy graphical sheen on SC II makes groups of units MUCH harder to differentiate. A Dragoon looks nothing like a zealot. A probe looks like an observer which looks like a zealot when you are hitting 200+ apm. That's how small (yet finely detailed) the SC 2 units are. The problem is that, when playing a competitive game, we don't have time to look at the fine details. We need to be able to tell INSTANTLY.

Additionally, all these partical effects and explosions and beams that catch the eye and sell the game actually make competitive gaming (and that's what RTS's are really for - playing against other people) difficult, as they are distractions.

The people who kept SC going for well over a decade are the hardcore. Flashy effects just distract from being able to easily distinguish units and groupings.

    Oh, and auto-mine is welfare. : D

And here silly me thought Blizzard was going for the biggest possible market segment, which means the hobbyists and casual non-professional players, as well as the large number of loyal fans.

As much as "hard-core" gamers like to think that they matter, being a part of 5% of the market just doesn't give you a lot of power... :p

Well, I guess I'll have to go get it myself. "Destination? Proceeding!!"
Come to think of it. I do miss it. ;)

The demands of hardcore gamers have caused countless tweaks and stalls to the SC II process, especially since beta.

Every extra week we had to wait was because of imbalances at high-level play with the 'toss mothership or exploits with the queen, etc.

This is not catering to the underskilled because, plainly, low-skilled players would never figure out these exploits (or be skilled enough to employ them efficiently).

Ask a D- ICCUP player about ling "leapfrogging" and he'll give you a blank stare. As Jaedong about it and he'll wax lyrical about a Destination win against Bisu that shouldn't have been.

A few of my buddies have it and they all love it. They say that the single player campaign is great and the storyline is awesome.

Im not a huge fan of RTS games, but when its a good story, ill give it a shot. The original Warcraft, Warcraft 2 and Starcraft are 3 RTS games i could actually play through most, if not all, of without too much difficulty.

Im pretty competitive in some things, but when it comes to my games i just like to lose myself in them. When they become work, they become unfun, and therefore bore me.

when i do play against players, i usually only play against people i know so i have fun talking trash and just being silly. I dont enjoy playing against people who need to be leet and pwn everyone. especially since im usually the one getting pwned LOL

I am playing SC2 when I have time.
Definitely worth the time. You have to remember that SC1 took a while to balance and when Brood Wars came out it required tweaks as well. If Blizzard keeps true to form SC2 will get better as it ages. The game is changed, but SC2 is definitely evolution, not a new game.

I recommend it to any gamer, if nothing else set it on easy and slaughter it just to see the storyline.

We got SC2 recently as well,on the logic that we couldn't remember the last time Blizzard released a bad game, that was poorly crafted and designed. One of the advantages of developing primarily for PC is that you eventually become good at it. A.k.a The Valve Syndrome. :)

Ok, Ok. I guess i'll have to get it. And Mimsy, I couldn't agree with you move about the Blizzard thing. It's been quite some time since they done something that wasn't worth playing.

    SC2 is pretty awesome.

If you're in it for the campaign, you won't be disappointed. I'm only half way at the moment, but it's been great. Great cut-scenes, interesting new missions types, and you get to work your way through the game in the order you want (I haven't been forced into a specific mission yet).

If you're more of an online, competitive gamer, the balancing that took place in the beta has left it in a pretty good place. I'd say the big difference in the online play is that SC2 requires much more scouting knowledge of what your opponent is doing if you want to do well and win games. Every unit has a counter and there's a lot to watch out for.

Overall, the game is great and I can't wait for the other games to follow (the current release is only the Terran story line, but all races are available to play against a computer or online).

I prefer Bioware's games to Valve's, but they're not exclusive to PC, in fact they have released nearly as many games "exclusive" to Xbox/360 as they have PC exclusives. Granted, they were later ported to PC, but still... ;)

I really enjoy the game a lot and still the greatest real-time strategy game of all time, IMHO. The evolution was good the campaign was great, I’m bit difficult with the control function and use of each zerg’s but I know I can get it with it and plan a good strategy. I may say all the sacrifices that made by not buying warcraft gold for a month just to have the SC2 copy are all worth it.

    Two complaints:

    1. You only get the Terran campaign. (I beat it last night) There will be sequels for both Zerg and Protoss. Wing Of Liberty, Heart Of The Swarm, and Legacy Of The Void.
    2. It is REALLY unfriendly to offline players. To play in offline mode, you must connect to battle.net to authorize your client, and your authorization is lost if you shut down the machine. I've had to keep my computer in hibernation to get around having to connect all the time.

Although, I saw both of these coming, so I'm not overly surprised. I do sympathize with devs that need to go to such lengths to make a return on their investment.

Apart from those two points, I love it! The story has been fantastic, as mentioned above, the campaign is not wide open, but far from linear, the graphics are beautiful. The new units are excellent, and I love, love, love the ability to sequence commands to each unit. "SCV - build me supply depots here, here, here, and here. GO!"

Xkcd is outstanding and hilarious, and I believe it recently became a mandatory addition for all geeks. :p

And now you've that song in my head I'm going to be humming and singing it all day long. Curse you! :-D

You don't really need a Steam account then... you need one for GoG.com. ;)

Let me first say i've loved Brood war for years and followed pro-league for around 6 or 7. (B max on iccup two seasons ago) This being said, Starcraft 2 is an exceptional game, and although it is'nt or will ever be broodwar it may well yet get up to its standard (I have all confidence).

I have a few gripes however, not with the game itself but with bnet 2.0. This could possibly be because I have been spoilt by the plethora of community features in Bnet but however I find it lacking (I'm certain these and tournament features will be patched in eventually, due to the community pressure).

And i've just finished every acheivement on WoL single player :D Was heavily enjoyable and i'm finally going to jump into the multi to show people whats what. Its a definate buy, and a milestone by being one of the best and most balance RTSs over the past decade. Buy it now.

    Also , within the community many tournaments have sprung up as well as a multitude of Starcraft 2 casters. I heavily recommend the following caster not only for game and strategic input , but also hilarity ;
