Startup Sentinel - Fast & Secure Startup

After SUMo, KCleaner and Zer0, i'm coming with a brand new free security-related software called Startup Sentinel (SuS)

Startup Sentinel (a.k.a. SuS) makes your PC startup faster and more secure by giving you full control on loaded software. Every single program added to your startup sequence is detected on the fly and can be approved, rejection or blacklisted (for further automatic rejection by SuS)

Hi Kyle, how would SuS be better than the free version of Winpatrol?

 

The "blacklist" function makes everything fully automatic once you've decided that a specific program should not be in your startup list.

And SuS if fully freeware, and its developper is a forum member (myself ) actively listening to your suggestions

This is only a early beta at that stage.

Since it's BETA, thanks anyway. I'll stick with Win Patrol Plus.

 

Make sure when you download the good software from kyle,s website that you download the LITE versions as the others may contain relevant knowledge.
The developer needs to make a living like most of us and this has caused heated criticism on several forums.

 

At that stage, SuS has NO SPONSORS. Only one download link (similar to "lite" installers for other software).

I'm also a WinPatrol free user interested in knowing what this would add for me. I won't have to reject the same program for startup over and over again when I do its updates. Anything else?

By the way, I got SUMo recently. SUMo detects more of my programs than other update programs I possess. It tells me I have two versions of Java (6.0.130.3 and 6.0.180.7) that don't show up in Add or Remove Programs or anywhere else. I clicked on "Open containing folder" and verified they are indeed there, so I need to decide how to get rid of them. Thanks for that info.

Startup Sentinel will definitively your problem of program to be removed after each update. After "blacklisting" SuS, odes the job for you, automatically.

Windows 8 already has this feature built into it, and improved with 8.1. So no need for third party software, to add overload.

 

Are you sure that a "disabled" startup entry in windows8 can be re-activated by the program itself if it re-attempts to set itself as startup ?
In that case SuS automatically catches & fix.

 

Nope, it has to be done manually by the user.

Do you mean detectino of same name / command but with an updated associated exe file ?

 

Yes, I mean it doesn't appear to detect or flag up any change of version of a startup program. White- or black-listed, this should happen by default, imo, giving the User the hint to check the validity of the update and the confidence that SuS is actively watching.

Just a note to mention that (the now previous version of) SuS does not alert on the uninstall of an AV or on the subsequent installation of another.

The current download of SuS contains a Relevant Knowledge wrapper, I will no longer be testing the product.

There were no clear links to any Lite or Portable version from your link.

Why even inflict RK on testers/users of a non-full release software version?

 

These versions and their "icons" are described on top of the page.

Should someone be reluctant to sponsors, even if fully optionnals, i'd suggest to use Lite or Portable versions.

Let's get back to Startup Sentinel debate

 

Pointing someone to a page for a download, that then points to another, very busy, page, where the most obvious link for the download in question is RK-wrapped, is indicative, to my mind, of pushing the RK-wrapped download.

Put yourself in the shoes of potential downloaders of SuS, how many are going to see or understand the relevance of the no-RK/Lite/Portable icons when faced with the big download button?

It's still in early pre-release form, don't alienate your testers, create a new page for the clean version.

Yes. It's definitely too easy to download an RK package installer, and I honestly wouldn't have even known about the other installers unless I took a good few minutes to study the download page. Besides, the website is a mess anyway.

Even if the site looked better, it was clearly designed to force RK down peoples' throats. Maybe it's just my computer, but the installers hang on the RK accept/decline, too, which almost seems to be a trick to make them think that declining isn't an option? And Comodo's popping up malware alerts on EVERY program on there, and they all want internet access -- why? I don't think most of those programs should contain malware-like code. I also hate when programs force a browser tab to open at the end of an installation. Not cool.

I try to be positive, but it's hard to find anything positive to say about any of it right now, unfortunately.

 

I understand that my download page might need some improvement.
This page redesign will be on top of the pile as soon as Startup Sentinel has gone out of beta campaign.

Me too, but it doesn't seem like I've had many downloads lately that didn't.

Right now I am having a problem with my favorite toolbox program, Glary Utilities. Whenever I click on it, it tries to impose itself as autostart or scheduled task. I reject that with WinPatrol. More significantly, every time I click on it, it fails to appear. I see Crash Doctor come up saying GU has performed an illegal operation.

Would Startup Sentinel be of any help to me here? It can't make Glary Utilities desist from attempting its stunt of imposing autostart, can it? It appears to be the attempt that is killing the program.
