Steam 1.6 - The Upgrade for Half-Life

I've heard several opinions about the new mandatory upgrade to the now five-year-old game. There have been dozens upon dozens of complaints, and the updates to Steam™ seem to bring on more complaints.

Any news on the ongoing project that is Steam? The last I heard, MA had started a thread that included a petition that most everyone signed (the people that read the thread, anyway). The latest problems I've heard are concerning Direct3D. Since the latest upgrade to Steam, users are unable to use Direct3D.

This problem cannot be resolved from the users side. If you upgrade your video card to the latest drivers, you'll be able to use OpenGL, but Direct3D is disabled for reasons unbeknownst to us, the users. Steam has announced that they are working on the problem, and will have it fixed in the next few updates.

Any comments or complaints other than the latest? Any users of Steam actually like the new look and feel?

 

lol... so you play CS MA?

i've been playing for 3 years... STEAM runs pretty smoothly on my rig (1.6 ghz, 512MB DDR, 128MB geforce ti4400).... i get 70-99 fps....

yes there were alot of steam problems at first but it seems to be MUCH more stable right now... i would be playing more CS 1.6 but due to the fact that i'm sharing a cable connection with 4 other people, i tend to get a sh!t load of lag spikes that make playing during normal hours a real problem....
