I'm going through the vista cleaning procedures and have downloaded ComboFix to my Orbit download manager. I'm supposed to move it to my desktop at this point, but, not supposed to run it yet. Not quite sure how to accomplish this task. Can anyone help?

I'm not exactly sure what your question is.
    • Are you saying you do not know where you are downloading the program to with the download manager?
    • Or are you saying you know where it is downloaded to but don't know how to move or copy the file from where it is currently saved to your Desktop?
    • Have you considered not using the download manager and just downloading and saving to your Desktop to begin with?
    • Also doesn't the download manager allow you to choose where you save things too?
    • You are going to have similar issues with MGtools.exe since it needs to be save to the root folder of your Windows drive and not whereever your download manager is saving things to.

What do you mean both have failed? Please describe exactly how far you are getting in the procedure and what exactly is happening?

there were three sites available for the download (bleepingcomputer.com, forospyware.com and geekstogo.com) i was successful in downloading forospyware, it was a spanish (i assume) site . . . so i attempted the other two many, many times. they failed to download. but, since my last post i have successfully downloaded combofix and it is on my desktop. now i'm trying to access and install vista r e. unfortunately the hp i'm on did not come with a windows disk. furstrated? yeah.

is there any way to get windows r e for vista except from a disk, any site maybe?

Standard operating procedures for PC manufactures who should all be shot for being so neglient.

No! At least not legally and we do not support using illegal methods and it could even lead to worse problems then you already have. I strongly advise you try to get a disk from the company that made your PC. However, in the meantime, just continue without the Disk. But for potential future problems, it would be in your best interest, to get a copy of your OS on DVD.

BestBuy did not make your PC. They just sold it to you. They will more than likely tell you that you need to purchase a copy of Vista for your PC. I was referring to getting it from the company that actually built the PC since the PCs should really be shipped with the original media. They are selling the PCs with the Windows OS preinstalled and the CDs should be shipped with it. They are necessary from many reasons....some of those reasons are due to malware issues others are due to problems that may occur within Windows.

i understand. i will find someone here locally with a disk. don't want to wait on hp. i have some friends in the business that may be able to give me a loaner. just hate to prevail upon their good will unless it's absolutely necessary. so, in the words of the gov ca. "i'll be baack" thanks again.
