i have just had a pop up show that says i have 122 incidents of porn recorded on my PC and offering a free scan, it was a program called DRIVE CLEANER considering i never visit porn sites i found it a bit strange.

my firewall picked it up and blocked it but i am curious how the pop up got through and where did the number 122 come from???

    any ideas pls.

Typical :spammer BS. Wouldn't take it too seriously.

Tell me Bill, was this popup in a browser window, or did it look more like a Windows dialog?

It was in a Browser Window just as if i had selected it and under other circumstances i might have opened it but the content was the give away

If it was your browser I would recommend using Firefox www.getfirefox.com or upgrading you're IE. These things can slip through sometimes.
If it was explorer it could be a messenger service (I thought they solved that problem with sp2?) If you get the popup again take a print screen if you are unsure and post it here.

    i already have that version.

this is the first time i have had such a pop up.

but having said that i now have another it says "A SHARING VIOLATION HAS OCCURED IN FLASH GET"I think its time for a serious look into this.

i have unloaded a number of programs that i no longer use just in case it came in with an update but the CPU was still at 100% so i had a good think what i had done today and the only thing was to use Adobe Acrobat to edit some photo's that came in from what i assumed to be a reliable source(a niece) using her computer at work, she works for a security company so i expected it to be safe.

i deleted the E-Mail and un-installed Acrobat and now all seems to be OK?

i will run it a while and see if it stays clear i will reload Acrobat from my original (genuine) disk.

if i have any more problems i will use malware procedure and post logs.

    thanks for the input.

I have got every thing running normal again.

but i have 1 piece of software that refuses to be removed i have used CCleaner/Tune up utilities/Your uninstaller and several others but all i get is "can not delete ERASER SETUP 58 4X32.EXE it is being used by another person or program shut down any programs using this application and try again"

but i am unable to find any program running and it is not listed in HIJACK THIS!

    any help or suggestions welcome.

i also did malware removal without any luck[IMG]

Try it again in safe mode. There's less of a chance that a process will be locking the file this way.

You might also try Pocket Killbox, which is great for deleting stubborn files.
