Hi, this is the son-in laws computer, it has lots of issues but I figured getting it cleaned out of any malware would be a start at least. I ran all of the scans, MGTools only blinks on and back off, no logs are generated. I don't know what is going on there. I've attached the other logs. Thanks in advance for looking at them.

Make sure you have disabled your AV program before you try to run MGTools. Let's see if we cant figure out why it will not run.

Please click Start, Run, and enter cmd and click OK. This will open a command prompt window. Enter the below commands at the command prompt each followed by the enter key. The bold black are commands. The red is merely informational.

cd \MGtools <-- this changes to the MGtools folder and the prompt should change to C:\MGtools>
GetRunKey <-- this will try to run all one scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.
ShowNew <-- this will try to run all another scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.

Hi Tim, couldn't get any response running from the command prompt. I undid MGtools and downloaded it again. Windows Explorer won't respond so I used Firefox with the option to install MGtools in C:MGtools. Tried to run it again this time the dos window stayed open long enough for me to see it read Cannot run from specified path or can't find specified path, I'm not certain which. Subsequent attempts resulted in the window closing before I could read the error message. SOOO?

Okay I got up this morning and the computer had locked up in hibernation mode. I had to do a restart so just for the heck of it I double clicked MGtools and it ran the scans just fine. Log attached.

I am not seeing any malware in your logs. However, you have two AV programs installed:
    avast! Free Antivirus
    McAfee VirusScan Home Edition

You need to uninstall one of them!! You also neglected to uninstall Viewpoint Media Player as directed in the Read and Run First instructions.

The main problem I see is that you need to at least double your RAM:
    Code:
    Total Physical Memory 512.00 MB
    Available Physical Memory 65.95 MB
What malware issues are you having?

Hey Tim, I thought I had gotten rid of McAfee before I loaded Avast. I downloaded and installed the removal program and Windows complained right away that no antivirus was present so I figured I had it out. There must still be traces hanging around. Same thing for Viewpoint Media Player, I can't find a reference to it anywhere. Obviously you do see something.

As for malware this box has so many issues I needed to start someplace, there was a fair amount of adware and a couple of trojans when I ran the Read Me First software drill. I just didn't know if I had killed it all.

I have system thirty two page on every start up along with Roxio but I can't find any reference to them in Startup-CPL. Very vexing.

Should I run the unistall program for Combofix and move over to the software forum?

Considering the need for more RAM, and your having a large D: drive, I would transfer any files or personal data to the D: drive and after adding another stick of RAM, reformat the C: drive and do a clean install.

Yes, I've thought of that as well. I would have to get the Son in Law involved in making sure we had his stuff moved over and he is clueless about most things computer. As for the RAM this system takes DDR 400 and I don't even know anyone who sells RAM of that type anymore. I can check around with some of my cronies, but my kids are school teachers with a new baby so they probably don't have any money anyway.

You can go to crucial.com and let it scan your system. It will tell you how much your motherboard will handle and in what sizes.

Yes, I'll do that. I just talked to a guy who deals in a lot of older computer parts he says he has two 512 sticks of DDR 400. I'll probably go that route for now. Thanks for taking the time to help out, I'm very grateful.
