SVCD problems playing in media player and winDVD

Hi everytime I play an SVCD it plays ok for a few mins then starts to stutter and won't play properly, DVD's are fine and anything else used in the CD rom is fine. The only way I can watch them is by transferring the files from the disc to the PC and then it will play fine so it is not the discs. It does this in both my roms as well have a DVD rom and a CD writer.

Windows XP
15GB hard drive (yes I know thats tiny these days)
512mb ram
AMD Athlon processor 1.01GHz
