I've noticed svchost using up a ton of my system resources. One instance of svchost uses between 10% and 40% of my CPU for as long as 20 minutes after I log in, and randomly uses around 30% at any given time after that.
And on top of that, I have literally 12 instances of svchost running. I had 13 but after disabling a few services I didn't need I now have 12. To me, this seems like way too many (most others on forums seem to have around 6?) and it eats into my resources. Is this some type of error or can it be fixed? Or is this simply how it goes? I know svchost is for services (hence my reason for disabling some).

I don't think there are any other services I can disable, and I don't run very many things at start up, that's why I feel like 12 svchosts is way too many. What could be causing this and/or is there anything I can do about it?

i'm under XP and i consistently have 9 instances of svchost running in processes, beginning with first boot, until i shutdown. i am squeaky clean; these 9 are normal for me & what's on my system.
