Swapped hard drive from one laptop to another (busted screen), problem is, when it boots up, it does not recognize the ethernet or network controller in order for me to use the net to activate windows etc etc. Getting prompts to insert disc with drivers, but never had any since this laptop came bundled with everything...looking for suggestions on how to proceed plz.

What are the makes and models of the laptops?

Hard drive came from an MSI Notebook MS-163K into a Toshiba Satellite C650D

And therein lies the problem. You're going to have to download and install the Toshiba drivers for the devices. They use different makes and models of the NIC and other devices.

I found the Toshiba download site for all the drivers..just download, put on a stick and then direct windows to the thumbdrive for drivers? Guess I should get all the drivers listed to be safe?

At least the ones specific to your laptop. There may be dozens of driver downloads for the model but maybe 10 for your particular laptop. I believe you can enter the serial number of your laptop (or whichever number Toshiba requests) and get a list of drivers specifically for your laptop.

Good news! Managed to get the network adapter working with the proper drivers, at least now can get online and take it from there...thanks for the help!

    Hi,

I advise downloading Everest - Free. Think I downloaded it from here ages back.

It helped me years ago when I was trying to download the advised drivers from the manufacturers website, the official documentation was incorrect.

I used to love my pc driver tech saviour "Everest" solved several issues for me like this.

No running around trolling through sites, blam Everest said hey this is what I found, I downloaded drivers for what it said it found for my version of windows, restarted and blam problem solved... just like it should be.
