Symantec AntiVirus running after ALL attempts to uninstall

I have been cleaning my computer (running Vista) using the Malware Removal Guide. When I get to running ComboFix, it alerts me that Symantec AntiVirus is running (real time scanner).

I have removed all Symantec products from my computer, including using manual steps from the product website. Despite removing all the files required, and running CCleaner, the same warning keeps popping up when I try to run ComboFix.

I have restarted my computer after each uninstall/change attempt.

Any help would be appreciated!

 

I haven't tried in Safe mode but can do so now. I did use the Norton Removal Tool to no avail.

 

Thanks to all for their help - I wound up running the recovery disks that came with my computer for a clean install of everything.

I found the Norton folder and immediately deleted it. Even running the Norton removal tool did not work, as the files were all for setting up from the Symantec website. Gone, gone, gone!!!
