System Restore from Boot and External Harddrive

    I had to do a full system restore from my boot disk that is 3 years old. I have an external hard drive that has data 1 month old with my complete computer on it. I can reinstall the external hard drive data, then,Can I jusy copy my files back to bring my PC up to date? Will I have to reinstall all the other programs software first?

    sorry could not find how to edit this post.
    I did a full sytem recovery from the boot disk, this is where I am starting from. I want to know how to restore the information from my external harddrive back. Is it possible without doing all the updates first from 2005?
