Systweak junk on my laptop

    Hi there,

    My laptop recently started getting a popup message saying something about a free system backup software on my computer and asking if I wanted to back up my files. Upon inspection, I found four new programs in my programs list. The programs were from Systweak. I thought it was something that came with this laptop, which is kind of new to me, or possibly with my son's Minecraft installation until my browsers' home pages and default search providers were changed yesterday. I have been able to disable and remove the search and change them back, and I uninstalled all four of the new programs. I can't remember all of their names, which I hope is not a problem! One of the names was Open It! One was supposedly a registry cleaner. One was supposedly for backup purposes. I don't remember what the fourth was. At least two of them took me to what appeared to be a legit website with seemingly helpful program removal instructions straight from the horse's mouth - Systweak. It was the middle of the night so I don't remember how the other two uninstalls wrapped up.

    The only thing left that appears to be wrong is that a slide-out search-like panel shows up on the left. It doesn't give a name, just a "T" in a box in the upper left of the panel. Also in the panel are terms related to the page I'm on. It is possible to "X" the panel and make it go away, but it comes back when I navigate to another page. I am concerned that something is still going on, so I've done the Read & Run Me First malware removal procedures. Attached below are my logs.

    Thanks in advance for whatever help you can give me.

    Esther

    [IMG] Fix items using RogueKiller.

    Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7/8 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    When it opens, press the Scan button
    Now click the Registry tab and locate these 3 detections:

    • [V1][SUSP PATH] Digital Sites.job : C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\DIGITA~1\UPDATE~1\UPDATE~1.EXE - /Check [-] -> FOUND
    • [V1][SUSP PATH] UpdaterEX.job : C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\UPDATE~1\UPDATE~1\UPDATE~1.EXE - /Check [-] -> FOUND
    • [V2][SUSP PATH] Digital Sites : C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\DIGITA~1\UPDATE~1\UPDATE~1.EXE - /Check [-] -> FOUND
    • [V2][SUSP PATH] UpdaterEX : C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\UPDATE~1\UPDATE~1\UPDATE~1.EXE - /Check [-] -> FOUND

    Place a checkmark next to each of these items, leave the others unchecked.
    Now press the Delete button.
    When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
    Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)
    Reboot the machine.

    Re run Hitman and have it delete:

    • C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\UpdaterEX\UpdateProc\UpdateTask.exe

    and...

    • HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{4AA46D49-459F-4358-B4D1-169048547C23}

    Use Windows Explorer to find and delete these if they show:
    • C:\windows\tasks\UpdaterEX.job
    • C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\DIGITA~1
    • C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\UPDATE~1

    [IMG] Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

    Re run RogueKiller once more, attach log, and explain how things are running.

    Thanks so much for all of your help! :)

    The only thing that I wasn't sure about was what this would look like in Windows Explorer:

    C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\DIGITA~1
    C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\UPDATE~1

    There are two folders, one with the name Digital Sites and one with the name UpdaterEx. Are those whole folders what I'm supposed to delete or was there some type of file? Just want to make sure of that before I do it.

    Okay, I deleted those folders and rebooted and everything worked. The weird slide-out search box still slid out when I opened this window, though, so I looked into the Firefox Add-ons and there was one add-on called RightSurf, which I removed. The slide-out search box is no longer there. I don't know how I missed that before. I did run the JRT and it looks like it did remove a Firefox profile. There aren't any apparent problems with the way things are running, but do you think it's necessary to go through any of the steps again?

    Thanks so much for your time!

    Excellent! :)

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.

    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
